Gluten Free S’mores Board & Dip

As you may have heard, S’mores Boards are all the rage this summer! My Smore’s Board is gluten free and features a bonus s’mores dip recipe as the centerpiece of the board. My bonus low-fat s’mores dip is gluten free and dairy free. Made with dairy free vanilla yogurt, marshmallow fluff and allergen friendly chocolate chips. This dip is the perfect vehicle to deliver all of your favorite s’mores toppings!

I grew up 20 miles outside of Chicago in the Northwest Suburbs. As a child I was very involved with my local girl scout troop and I loved our yearly girl scout camping trips. I loved munching on gorp (aka trail mix) and snacking on s’mores for dessert. In addition to my girl scout camping trips, I also embarked on a camping trip with all of the dads and kids in my neighborhood every summer. With over 40 dads and kids in attendance each year, it was definitely the highlight of my summer! I have fond memories of sitting by the campfire and eating s’mores while listening to ghost stories. Back then I had no idea I was celiac. I thought my stomach aches were caused by eating too many s’mores!

Now I am 30 years old and have been gluten free for 8 years. Whenever I attend the occasional backyard bonfire I am not able to partake in the s’mores due to celiac disease. But trust me, I have tried! Sandwiching a flaming hot marshmallow between 2 bricks of chocolate ends in a melted chocolate mess! Earlier this summer I ordered several boxes of Kinnikinnick Gluten Free Graham Crackers with the intention to experiment with different gluten free recipes and the results have been delicious!

S’MORES DIP INGREDIENTS:

  • Dairy Free Vanilla Yogurt: I prefer to eat dairy free whenever possible. If you are good with dairy then you can certainly use regular vanilla yogurt. I recommend using a thicker greek-style yogurt instead of a thin Yoplait yogurt style. The thickness will help the dip keep its shape, similar to adding sour cream to savory dips.
  • Marshmallow Fluff: Obviously this gives marshmallow flavor to the dip. Note- this dip tends to be very sweet. You can always decrease the amount of fluff used to cut back on the sweetness.
  • Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: I used allergen friendly chocolate chips because they are dairy free.
  • Miniature Marshmallows: I like to add mini marshmallows to the dip so it gives the marshmallow appearance and you can clearly see that it is a dessert-dip.

Recipe notes:

  • If you use thin, runny yogurt this dip will become thin and runny as well. I prefer mine to be a thicker consistency so I use greek-style yogurt. You can also decrease the amount of yogurt used if you want thicker consistency, however I like how the yogurt balances the sweetness from the fluff.
  • I used Semi-Sweet chocolate chips because the dip is very sweet and I think the bitterness from the semi-sweet chips plays well with the sweetness.
  • You can also sprinkle a layer of graham cracker crumbs on top of the dip, topped with more mini marshmallows and chocolate chips.

GLUTEN FREE S’MORES BOARD INGREDIENTS

  • Gluten Free Graham Crackers: Try these Kinnikinnick Graham Crackers!
  • Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar: The classic chocolate used on s’mores all across America! You can buy this in bulk in the seasonal section of every grocery store during the summer, or all year round in the candy aisle.
  • Dark Chocolate: Since this dip leans toward the VERY sweet side, I like to use dark chocolate as a dipper. The bitterness of dark chocolate balances the sweetness of the dip.
  • Strawberries: Fresh fruit adds from color and freshness to the board!
  • Gluten Free Pretzels: The sweet & salty combination is delicious!
  • Large Marshmallows: Delicious for scooping dip or creating a “raw” s’more!

Other ingredient recommendations:

  • Any chocolate, from cookies n cream bars to Reese’s peanut butter cups to Mr. Goodbar.
  • Other scoopable fresh fruit such as sliced apples.
  • Teddy Grahams or cookies.
  • Potato Chips: This is a wild idea! But nowadays they sell potato chips covered in chocolate, so why not s’mores dip?!

Serving ideas:

This gluten free s’mores board and dip would be delicious for a girls night when paired with a savory charcuterie board. You can also create this board as a fun treat for the kids or serve as a snack at a party. Lastly, what would glamping be without s’mores?! Enjoy!

Ingredients
  

DIP

  • 3/4 cup dairy free yogurt (vanilla or plain) (or regular greek yogurt)
  • 1 cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1/4 cup mini allergen friendly chocolate chips (plus more for topping)
  • 1/4 cup mini marshmallows (plus more for topping)

S'MORES BOARD

  • Gluten Free Graham Crackers
  • Gluten Free pretzels
  • Strawberries
  • Hershey's Milk Chocolate
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Large marshmallows

Instructions
 

DIP

  • Add the yogurt and fluff to a mixing bowl. Combine with a whisk or use an electrical mixer.
  • Once combined, fold in the chocolate chips and marshmallows.
  • Cover dip and refrigerate for at least one hour so the dip can set.
  • Before serving, top the dip with more marshmallows, chocolate chips, or graham cracker crumbs.
  • Serve on s'mores board with other s'mores board dippers.
